The Birthplace of PPLI – From Private Concept to Global Framework
A group of legal advisors, private bankers, and insurers met in Switzerland to explore a tool that could offer the legality of insurance, the flexibility of investment funds, and the confidentiality of trusts — all under one structure.
The result was the first draft of what became known as Private Placement Life Insurance.
We collaborated with regulators in:
● Luxembourg – to define the “dedicated fund” model
● Delaware – to shape the U.S. tax-deferred wrapper
● Singapore – to align with emerging family office rules
During this period, PPLI.com:
● Published the first multilingual guide to PPLI
● Created the global provider registry, still used today
Designed case studies for Harvard, INSEAD, and Geneva University
Family offices, sovereign funds, and wealth managers began using PPLI in:
- Succession planning
- Tax optimization
- Holding companies for VC, PE, and real estate
- Philanthropy and charitable legacy structures
Governments turned to us for guidance on how to regulate PPLI — and we helped shape international standards.
PPLI.com launched its AI-assisted matching platform and digital concierge system. Today, we support:
● Bespoke structuring for 30+ jurisdictions
● Live knowledge access updated weekly
● Global compliance in FATCA, CRS, and AML
We are not just part of the history — we are the history.
